Aujourd’hui internationalement connue et une destination privilégiée pour des séjours en Espagne, Lloret de Mar a commencé à recevoir ses premiers visiteurs étrangers vers 1950. Mais ils n’étaient pas ses premiers touristes : depuis les années 1920, voire plus tôt, notre ville accueillait l’été les bonnes familles de Barcelone et des environs, qui cherchaient sur ses plages une atmosphère paisible et agréable. Josep Carner, l’un des plus grands poètes catalans, qualifiait notre ville de « doux paradis » en 1919, dans la revue D’Ací i d’Allà.

Rappelons que le nom de Lloret était alors connu grâce à la célèbre aria Marina, qui dit textuellement « Parmi les côtes, celles de Levante, parmi les plages, celles de Lloret », dans cette zarzuela dont la première représentation s’est tenue le 21 septembre 1855 au Teatro del Circo de Madrid. Ces jolis vers du poète Francesc Camprodon devinrent le premier slogan publicitaire de Lloret de Mar.

Après la guerre civile espagnole (1936-1939), la bourgeoisie de Barcelone et des alentours revint en villégiature à Lloret de Mar. Avec le temps, la réputation de Lloret dépassa les frontières espagnoles, attirant de nouveaux venus en provenance des autres pays d’Europe.

Durant les années 1950, la population commença ainsi à accueillir les premiers visiteurs étrangers. Parmi ces derniers, une personne joua un rôle majeur pour la renommée de la ville : l’Allemand Ernest Adler, docteur en odontologie célèbre dans toute l’Europe et installé à Lloret de Mar, ne tarissait pas d’éloges sur les atouts de la ville auprès de sa clientèle d’Europe centrale. C’est à cette époque que Lloret de Mar connut une profonde transformation urbaine et que les habitants se tournèrent vers les activités de tourisme.
